Our Goals
In nursing, the goal is to provide the best quality of care to our patients. Academic research and writing helps us achieve this goal. Whether it is writing in research articles, different ways to help our patients, or writing in their charts what they observe. Their number one priority is to help.Â
A lot of topics they research are on quality of life. Nurses research and write in many different topics such as Adult/ Child care, Mid Wifery, Womens Health and Nursing Issues. For Example: in Midwifery, if water birth is the idealized type of birth.

Academic Research Students
In order to become a registered nurse you must have a associates or bachelors degree in nursing. During these years you do a lot of academic research. This research helps prepare you for your future in the field. It helps you recognize different terminology used in the field and help treat a patient correctly. Some big topics or questions researched are: Â How do we educate nurses to have the competency to do the job? or How do we administer the best patient care? The academic research behind these questions allows a nurse to expand their knowledge in order to accomplish their goals in the nursing field.
Workplace Research
Work place research is very important in a nurses career. On the job is where they learn the most by hands on experience. For Example: In the hospital a patient could be given a medication in the morning and evening to help treat their hypertension. The nurse charts the patients blood pressure every 2 hours and notices that the patient pressure is not coming down. She can then show her note to the doctor and provide proof that the original medication is not helping as original planned and suggest trying a new medication to help lower the pressure. This research could effectively help the nurse treat other patients with severe hypertension and help them distinguish what medications could possible treat patients better to maximize patient quality of care.
Professional Research
Professional research is research that nurses rely on the most to keep up to date with new advancements in medicine. Professional research is also research that tends to come about after years of experience as a registered nurse. For example: Taking the hypertension example from the work place research section. This example of trying out medications could eventually turn into professional research by noting what medication works better in some with severe hypertension and what times of the day medications work better. This could make for a more effective drug that helps better control a patients hypertension. A lot of this type of research is found in databases for nursing research, nursing journals and articles, and professional nursing websites.
